Mister Trooper

Our Mister Trooper continues to get better each day. He is much more animated now. He loves to run and jump and play. He loves to cuddle and be petted. He is now sleeping on the floor next to my bed and sleeps most of the night (until 5 a.m) and if he does get up earlier he doesn't pace. He will just play with his toys. He continues to spin and circle but a little less than before. He is getting better at holding a point. He seems to have more attention span for it now. Still won't let anybody touch him but he will stand quietly with his back to people when we go out and encounter people which I purposely do so he gets used to them. Hates the car but is getting better. Please keep Trooper in your prayers as he continues to improve.

Mister Trooper
Mister Trooper
Trooper went for his first car ride since joining us in June. It was not a good experience. I had to pick him up and put him in the car. He is not a light weight either. We went about 3 miles around the neighborhood and by the end of the trip he had scooched his butt over the console and was sitting sideways with his butt in my lap. He is better with meeting people on our walks. He doesn't spin as much but avoids looking at them. Hides by my leg. Maise is teaching him patience in hunting the killer rabbits in the neighborhood. He can hold a point for a couple minutes now. Then he gets anxious and continues walking again. He is much friskier now, more playful and interactive. He has a sparkle in his eye and Maise and I love him very much.

Trooper troops on
Trooper continues to get better with each passing day. He loves to walk but hates to just be outside. He continues to be so very afraid of people but has been doing less spinning when we do encounter others on our walks. He continues to live on the upstairs landing but will go downstairs to sleep on his cushion at night and he loves to steal Maise's toys and bones and bring them up to the landing. Then she steals everything right back. He loves to have his belly rubbed and would be perfectly content to have me sit on the stairs all day and pet him. He will come downstairs and interact more but really doesn't sit still yet. He never barks but does whine when he needs to go to the bathroom. He will now wag his tail (stub) when I get up in the morning. It is so cute to see that little stub wagging. He also points more at animals but doesn't have the patience that Maise has to hunt them. (Not that Maise actually gets to hunt. They both are always on a leash outside). But they do like to pretend that they are hunting those pesky rabbits. Maise and I are glad that he is in our house and will continue to help him get better. We thank everybody for their prayers and support. I can't imagine our household without our Mister Trooper in it.

The 4th of July
Trooper did very well over the long weekend/holiday. Many people lighting off fireworks and as long as he was in the house he did just fine, no spinning or cowering or shaking. It was a little difficult to get him outside to potty when the fireworks were going off but when he had to pee bad enough he went. No accidents inside the house. Trooper is walking better outside and while he is still soooo afraid of people he will stand right up against my leg with his back to the person. He and Maise get along well until they both are wanting my attention. Trooper will just head butt Maise out of the way. They walk together pretty well but Maise really loves to "hunt" for animals and also loves to scavenge for food while Trooper just walks and spins, he is not motivated by food at all. Trooper says "hi" to everyone and wants everyone to keep him in their prayers as he continues on the road to recovery. Connie

The Rewards of Fostering! Trooper is Home!

Below are updates from Connie. Mister Trooper's new mom!
I am sure when Lisa read this report there were tears of joy flowing freely,....
I know they are here, as I attempt to update Mister Trooper's story,...
6.20.06: Good morning Lisa. I think we had a mini breakthrough this morning. Trooper came right out of the kennel to go to the bathroom this morning then instead of going right back in after our walk he would go in and out of the kennel and sniff around the house, circled the dining room table but then would come and stand by me to be petted. He did this for about an hour which is better than just going into the kennel and hiding. Have a good day. Connie
6.23.06: You would be so proud of him. He will come out of his kennel on his own and circles around the house then comes over by me and stands there to get petted, he will even nudge my hand if I'm not paying attention. He grabbed one of Maise's toys this am and took it to his kennel, of course she went right back in to get it. Then he kind of chased her around the table with the toy. He still has issues in the backyard going to the bathroom, he looks like he is going to go then gets startled by something and stops so some potty breaks take awhile. He came out of the kennel on his own to go for a walk. Still gets scared of some of the sounds but walks better and even pointed(?) at a chipmunk then tried to chase it. Doesn't always eat his food in the kitchen but I think he gets scared of Maise because she watches him and he runs for the kennel but he is getting better about it. Yesterday he got away from me on one of their walks and ran from me but he actually ran down the street, turned onto my street and turned into the driveway and went into the backyard and circles the patio table until Maise and I showed up. I really wondered if he knew where he lived and now I know he knows where his house is.
I'm Comin, Momma!!
Lisa says goodbye to Trooper,....as always, it is bittersweet to see a foster go to their fur-ever home.Knowing that Trooper will live a wonderful life, in a loving home is what keeps us going.
As you return home, the saddness of their absence is replaced by the urgency of another bird dog who is in desperate need of our help.
Lord knows there are many, praying for the miracle of rescue.

I Swear I Could Hear ,......

I swear ,at night I could hear my friends and family, calling to me, across the miles,.....But I must have been dreaming,
I missed Ashley,....

A couple of Months after we arrived in Illinois, we found out that Ashley was going to be a Mommy,....
she gave birth to six beautiful puppies, who will all live the good life,.. Thanks to many wonderful people,..
Ashley and I
This is my friend Ashley, we were lucky enough to have made it off that mountain together,..many of our frieds and family were missing,..

they had dissapeared in different directions with different humans,..
Somehow, Ashley and I managed to find, some time to ourselves, and made a pact that would always hold us together, no matter how many miles came between us.
Although my new home is very nice and I have other friends to play with, and keep me company,.. it's just not the same
It All started in February,...

On a cold afternoon in February, we noticed a human, walking near our home,....
He wasn't the one that dumped our food,.....he didn't even stay very long,....
The next day there were many humans, and they were gathering all of us together and taking us away,..it was very scary, our entire pack was being seperated.
My friends and family were dissapearing,...

As sad as it may seem,.. this was our home,...our only home,...
I'm Trooper,...
I'm Trooper, or sometimes they call me Mister, or sometimes Romeo?I am lucky enough to be one of the 60 Bird dogs that were rescued from a terrible place down in Arkansas.
Want to hear something kind of funny?
At the time, none of us really thought it was that bad,....
it was our home,....
If you have a moment I would like to share my story with you ,....
